Edilma E. Rodriguez

Jan 29, 1938 — Jun 29, 2026

Scotch Plains, NJ

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Edilma E. Rodriguez, who passed away peacefully at the age of 88.

Family and friends are welcome to visit on Wednesday July 1st from 2-4pm in Scarpa Las Rosas Funeral Home, 22 Craig Place North Plainfield, NJ 07060.

Edilma was born on January 29, 1938, in Panama City, Panama, to Eloisa Castillo Rios and Valentin Abrego. From an early age, she demonstrated determination and excellence. She attended private school, graduated from high school, and was an accomplished swimmer who earned recognition as an alternate for the Olympic team. She treasured her childhood in Panama and shared a lifelong bond with her sister, Isabel Abrego.

Following high school, Edilma devoted a year to serving as a teacher in rural Panama, reflecting her compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others. During her pursuit of higher education, she met the love of her life, Jaime Rodriguez, whom she married in the 1960s. Together they built a loving family and welcomed their two children, David Abrego and Elisabet Logie.

Seeking new opportunities, Edilma and her husband immigrated to the United States to build a brighter future for their family. She enjoyed a successful 30-year career in accounting with Sears Roebuck, where her hard work and dedication helped create a stable and loving home in West New York, New Jersey. She took great pride in achieving many personal milestones, including purchasing her first car, learning to drive, owning her own home, and ensuring that both of her children were able to graduate from college debt-free while her husband faithfully served in the United States Navy.

After retiring, Edilma embraced one of the greatest joys of her life—being a grandmother. Affectionately known as "Mamucha," she devoted herself to her grandchildren, Edward, Evelyn, and Amanda. Whether driving them to school, cheering them on at hockey, soccer, and track events, or enjoying summer days by the pool, Mamucha's love, guidance, and unwavering support became treasured memories that will live on in their hearts.

Edilma remained deeply connected to her Panamanian heritage and enjoyed returning to her homeland with her son, David. She found happiness in spending time with family, celebrating life's simple moments, and creating lasting traditions.

Edilma will be remembered for her strength, resilience, generosity, and unconditional love for her family. Her life was a testament to perseverance, sacrifice, and selfless devotion to those she loved.

She is lovingly survived by her children, David Abrego and Elisabet Logie; her cherished grandchildren, Edward, Evelyn, and Amanda; her sister, Isabel Brooks; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness.

Though she will be deeply missed, Edilma's legacy of love, faith, hard work, and family will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Forever loved, forever remembered.
