Maria Teresa Martinez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old.
Born in Copán, Honduras, Maria Teresa carried with her the warmth and resilience of her heritage throughout her life. She moved to the United States in pursuit of a better future for her family, eventually settling in Watchung, New Jersey, where she became a cherished member of the community.
Maria Teresa was known for her unwavering faith, generosity of spirit, and the deep love she had for her family. Her home was a place of comfort and joy, where traditions were honored and everyone was welcome. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel seen and cared for—whether through a kind word, a warm meal, or a simple, heartfelt smile.
She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and enduring love. Maria Teresa is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life. Her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Family and friends are welcome to visit on Sunday June 29th from 4-10pm in The Church of Ladder Day Saints, 1600 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040.
Maria will be repatriated and buried in Chamelecon, Honduras.
